Celebrating a decade and a half of trendsetting directional fashion design, Raf Simons’s Summer 2011 Collection gives us exactly what he is known for - unconventional Modernist design detailing, razor-sharp, fitted tailoring and progressive silhouettes. Raf brings a dynamic edge to the predominant tones of Midnight Blue, Black and White with sparse but colorful accents: zippers with colorful trim and super-long, exaggerated hanging zipper pull details on killer blazers, sleeveless shirts and sophisticated shorts/trousers. His Oxford dress shoes are amazing, to boot - classy and formal yet substantial and rugged at the same time!

Raf Simons S/S ‘11 Men’s Collection!

Bernhard Willhelm is back for 2012 with an insanly chaotic and over-the-top Spring/Summer Menswear presentation (his first menswear runway show in years, actually), a subverted satire of sorts on idealized masculinity and the mass-media. Think clashing colored patterns of dip-dyed rainbows and catchphrase prints topped off with piercing blue contact lenses, assorted plastic wreaths and orange Jersey Shore spray-on tans! Meanwhile there was a constant reminder of the muscle-culture theme by bikini-clad female bodybuilder singing and flexing her muscles while striking poses during the show! Bizarrely inspiring and always a breath of fresh air!

JUUN J. is fast becoming the most talked about new menswear designer during the Paris shows. Over the past few seasons, he has a developed his own unique vocabularly of deconstruction and reconstruction of classic menswear elements, combining them in unexpected ways to form new silhouettes and design details. For S/S ‘12, he stays within a white, camel, grey and black color palette but uses dashes of gold to subtly highlight certain design details. And it’s all about the lapel, where he slices them up, strips them back and reattaches for a fresh take on tailoring as only Juun J can do.

Our first impression of RAF SIMONS S/S ‘12 collection was that he accidentally showed his Jilsander collection by mistake! But the more we studied it, the more we realize that it is simply, pure distilled Raf Simons. For this collection, he focuses on pattern and print, and the diagonal manipulation of silhouette. Attention-getting color and patterns aside, tt’s barely-there design, done in a minimal way that only a master like Simons can pull off. In other words, there is much more than meets the eye without careful inspection. And we can happily say that his production problems are now over, as he is working with a new reliable factory, so there won’t be any tardiness with future deliveries now. Note the very good prices!
